UK dairy group Dairy Crest is to invest GBP5m (US$7.7m) in upgrading its Dagenham processing facility in east London.
A spokesperson for the group told just-food today (12 April) the investment at the Chadwell Heath-based facility will involve “a number of projects” this year.
“The site is going from strength to strength and this has been reflected in our recent announcement that we have retained our major contract to supply milk to Sainsbury’s through to 2017,” the spokesperson said.
The investment will including updating and improving facilities on the site in a bid to make the unit “more efficient”, Dairy Crest said.
“It demonstrates our commitment to our Chadwell Heath dairy, one of our three key dairies following last year’s closures of two other dairies in Liverpool and Cambridge,” the spokesperson added.
The spokesperson would not disclose what the current capacity at the plant is or whether the investment would see that capacity increase.
