Dale Farm, the dairy processing unit of Northern Irish co-op United Dairy Farmers, has said it has acquired the UK dairy operations of scandal-ridden Italian food giant Parmalat.

Dale Farm said it has bought Parmalat’s dairy processing unit situated in Kendal, in northern England, for an undisclosed sum, reported Reuters . The Kendal plant, which has turnover of around £30m (US$57.4m) per year, makes Losely and Lakeland Maid products.

The deal is part of Dale Farm’s plan to invest £20m in its manufacturing operations.
