Dale Farm, the dairy processing unit of Northern Irish co-op United Dairy Farmers, has said it has acquired the UK dairy operations of scandal-ridden Italian food giant Parmalat.

Dale Farm said it has bought Parmalat’s dairy processing unit situated in Kendal, in northern England, for an undisclosed sum, reported Reuters. The Kendal plant, which has turnover of around £30m (US$57.4m) per year, makes Losely and Lakeland Maid products.

The deal is part of Dale Farm’s plan to invest £20m in its manufacturing operations.
