UK distribution and logistics firm Wincanton will cut 400 jobs across three depots in the wake of restructuring moves at The Co-operative Group.
The Co-op has launched a review of its distribution network as it integrates Somerfield into its business.
The retailer has recently opened a GBP15m regional distribution centre in Birtley, which employs more that 550 people, a spokesperson told just-food.
The Co-op has also received planning permission to develop a multi-temperature regional distribution centre at Newhouse, Lanarkshire, where 950 people will be employed.
“Existing Co-operative distribution operations at Cumbernauld and Harthill will transfer to the new facility and staff at the two sites will be offered the opportunity to relocate to Newhouse,” the spokesperson said.
