The UK arm of pizza chain Domino’s Pizza has launched a major recruitment drive to fill up to 2,000 temporary part-time positions created to help the stores cope with the upsurge of pizza orders over Christmas.

The Christmas and New Year period is one of the busiest times for Domino’s Pizza and, as a result, the company is planning to increase its part-time workforce by up to 30%, approximately five people per store, it said.

“Christmas festivities mean that Domino’s Pizza is traditionally very busy at this time of year as the party season gets into full swing and people look for a fresh and easy meal replacement to ease the pressure of Christmas preparations,” said Antony Tagliamonti, franchisee of three Domino’s Pizza stores in the London area. “Festive ordering means that Domino’s stores bake around 80,000 additional pizzas a week. The atmosphere in store is always very jolly at this time of year so it’s fun to be at work and the tips tend to be very generous.”

“This time of year can be very expensive with presents and parties to cater for,” said Jane Roberts, head of HR at Domino’s Pizza. “Temporary part-time positions like those at Domino’s are flexible enough to give people time to enjoy the festive period and the cash to prevent them incurring debts that can hang over well into the New Year.”

Positions most needed at this time of year are delivery drivers and pizza makers, the company said. Currently three quarters (6,750) of the company’s 9,000 strong workforce work part-time.
