The Food and Drink Federation (FDF) today [Monday] welcomed the British Retail Consortium, National Farmers Union and the British Hospitality Association as partners in its food safety consumer information programme, Foodlink.

The programme, which organises the UK’s National Food Safety Week (10-16 June 2002) and aims to promote good food safety practices, already works with the Food Standards Agency (FSA), the Royal Environmental Health Institute of Scotland, the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health, the Local Authorities Co-ordinating Body on Food and Trading Standards, and the Departments of Health, Food and Education.

FSA Chairman, Sir John Krebs launched National Food Safety Week 2001.

Sylvia Jay FDF Director General, commented: “Food safety is FDF’s number one priority.

“I am delighted that the retail, farming and hospitality sectors have come on board. Four million people suffer from food poisoning every year: it’s a serious problem.

“With this extra support, I hope that we can spread the good practice messages even further to try and reduce the problem.”
