Young’s Seafood, The Seafood Co and Findus UK are to be brought together to create Young’s Seafood Ltd, the UK’s largest supplier of fish and seafood.
Parent company Findus said today (8 February) that the move will combine the operations of frozen seafood brand Youngs, frozen food brand Findus, with chilled fish and seafood supplier, The Seafood Co – which is the leading supplier of chilled fish and seafood to UK retailers.
Leendert den Hollander, who is currently managing director of Findus Group UK and Ireland will become the chief executive of the newly formed brand. He will be joined by Pete Ward, currently managing director of The Seafood Co as chief operating officer.
Den Hollander told just-food that the move will make it the “UK’s leader in chilled and frozen, own-label and branded fish and seafood”, adding that it will help the company’s plans to further accelerate growth by “drawing on our scale, heritage and leadership in fish and seafood, in close partnership with our retailers”.
The newly appointed CEO said the move will bring the fish expertise in its businesses together at its Fish and Seafood Centre of Excellence in Grimsby.
“This will enable us to leverage our collective, market leading experience in sourcing, sustainability, quality, category and consumer insight, where new ideas and best practice from our chilled teams can be shared with our frozen teams and visa versa,” he said.
