Increasing demand for its products has prompted UK cake maker The Cake Crew to move to increase its production.

The Cake Crew, based in Wales, is boosting its production capacity assisted by a GBP500,000 loan from Welsh government agency Finance Wales.

The Bala-based company is a supplier of cupcakes to retailers in the UK, supplying supermarkets including Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons, Aldi and The Co-op.

Simon Faithfull, The Cake Crew’s managing director, said the firm had seen “substantial growth” over the past few years.

“The funding provided by Finance Wales is enabling us to expand, supporting employment and our contribution to the north Wales economy,” he said. The company will now be able to take on at least eight new workers in the quality, technical and new product development departments, he added.

“Over the last few years we’ve seen substantial growth as our products have found favour with consumers and, as a result, new retail customers have come on board.”

Finance Wales senior investment executive Rhodri Evans said added: “The Cake Crew are a great example of a local success story with the business having grown significantly over the last three to four years. We are delighted to be able to support them with their continued growth.”

The loan comes from the Wales Business Fund is in part been funded by the EU’s European Regional Development Fund.
