A new survey conducted in the UK by the Food Standards Agency suggests that most people put price before quality or healthiness when making food purchases.

Cost was the top factor in decision making for 46% of food shoppers overall, but price was especially important to consumers aged between 35 and 44.

Around 18% of people think that taste is the most important factor in food choice, but only 17% recorded that quality is the defining consideration.

Only 12% of those quizzed meanwhile said that they put health first when making food choices, a revelation at odds with the fact that around 98% of respondents insisted that they thought family health was important.
