Geest, the UK prepared foods group, has completed its acquisition of Cinquieme Saison, the French prepared salads business, ahead of schedule.

The purchase was not expected to be finalised before the end of the year, but negotiations proceeded faster than expected. Geest has bought the French firm for £6m (US$8.9m) in cash.

Geest reported sales growth near 17% in the H2 of the last financial year, and is now looking to progress into Europe. “Whilst the UK food market remains competitive, we continue to progress,” the company said.

Geest, which supplies supermarkets with freshly prepared products, said the UK remains its main market but has targeted Spain, Italy and Germany for future expansion, both organically and through acquisitions.
