UK convenience food group Geest has announced that a fire which began late last night has destroyed two facilities making pasta and speciality bread at its Barton-on-Humber site.

The company said no one working at the site was hurt during the incident. One other bread-making facility on the site was undamaged, but was not currently manufacturing.

“A site at Scunthorpe, which also produces pasta, remains fully operational,” Geest said, adding that its customers have been made aware of the situation.

The two facilities represent less than 10% of Geest’s assets and contribute around 6% of group turnover. The company said it is insured against such losses.
