Retail entrepreneur Philip Green is reported to have requested fresh financial information on UK supermarket chain and takeover target Safeway.

Green, whose potential bid for the chain was not referred to the competition authorities, said he requested the new information ten days ago and received it last week, reported the Daily Telegraph.

Some analysts had believed Green, who has been free to bid for the chain since March, had lost interest in acquiring Safeway.

Meanwhile, Morrison, which has been cleared to bid for Safeway, has also requested and received new financial information on the chain.
