Germany-based confectioner Haribo has begun recruiting staff for a new UK facility.

In April, Haribo said it was studying plans to set up a production and distribution facility in the Yorkshire town of Normanton.

The company said at the time it had been “investigating expansion plans for some time” to meet the “growing consumer demand” for Haribo products in the UK.

While the company declined to comment today (20 August) on whether it had made a decision to press ahead with the plans for the site, the company has begun recruitment for the facility.

A notice on Haribo’s job vacancies board for maintenance fitters, electricians and packaging fitters reads: “As we prepare for the new site at Normanton we are now actively recruiting for the above positions to begin training with us in preparation for the installation work that will be the first part of the roll-out of the new site.

“We are looking for individuals to join our current teams as we plan to take across to the new site a blended team of current Haribo employees as well as new recruits.”

In April, the company said it was expected to create around 286 jobs at the site, “with the potential for further expansion”.

The group currently operates a facility in Pontefract, six miles from the proposed Normanton site, where it employs around 537 staff.
