Heinz has announced the launch of a reduced sugar and salt variety of its flagship Baked Beans brand in the UK.

A £5m (US$9.26m) communications programme has also been unveiled to advertise the nutritional benefits of baked beans. The new variety contains 70% less salt than standard Heinz Baked Beans, the company said, although salt has also been lowered by 15% in the standard variety, amounting to a total 30% reduction over the past two years.

Packaging across the entire Heinz canned range has also been revamped, with what the company terms “a more contemporary upper and lower case brand name and a ‘softened’, smaller, keystone”.
