UK retailer Iceland Foods is to start trialling an online service in weeks.

Iceland, which provides free home delivery through which consumers have their shopping taken home from its stores, will test a full online offer “in a very small way in a few weeks”, a spokesperson told just-food today (22 April). The spokesperson refused to be drawn on where the trial will take place.

The launch into online forms part of Iceland’s expansion plans in its new financial year, which started earlier this month.

In its 2013/14 financial year, Iceland plans to open 40 stores. In the previous year, Iceland opened 36 outlets to take its network to 790.

The spokesperson said the new stores would be spread “nationwide”.
