Scotland-based bakery group Johnstone’s Bakers has invested GBP5m (US$9.9m) to expand capacity with a view to increasing its market position.
The company has taken over a six-acre premises located in East Kilbride. At the new manufacturing facility Johnstone’s has upgraded its production line so that it is 30% wider, faster and more efficient, the company told just-food today (17 April).
“We are expanding due to demand,” a spokesperson for the bakery group said. “We are also expanding to introduce new products and become market leaders.”
Johnstone’s is set to double its current GBP4m turnover in 2008. The company makes a range of products including caramel shortcakes and flapjacks, with exports to Ireland, Europe and the US.
