Kerry Group is to close its production site in Durham in the UK by the end of July.
The closure of the facility, which produces cooked meats, home baking products and meat snacks, will affect 347 employees, a spokesperson told just-food today (28 June).
“Because of a slowdown in markets and uptake across a number of lines, particularly cooked meats, we were unable to secure a viable future for the facility.”
The spokesperson added a consultation that began at the end of March had now completed and staff had been informed of the closure date for the site.
“Regretfully we have not been able to identify an alternative to secure the future of production at the site and so have confirmed to employees that the facility will close on 20 July.”
As a result of the site closure, production of cooked meats will transfer to Co Wicklow in the Republic of Ireland, home baking to a site in Spalding and meat snacks to Attleborough.

By GlobalData“We have been working closely with the 347 employees involved, a number have already left and sought employment elsewhere, some are exploring other options and some have enjoyed good success. Some we have been in a position to offer employment to,” the spokesperson said.
