Retail entrepreneur John Lovering has confirmed that he is part of a consortium interested in bidding to takeover UK supermarket retailer Somerfield.

Lovering’s consortium also includes Bob Mackenzie, a former head of National Car Parks. Lovering himself is a former chairman of DIY group Homebase and Odeon Cinemas.

In a short statement Mackenzie and Lovering confirmed their interest and said they had submitted a proposal which “which may or may not lead to an offer being made”, reported BBC Online.
