The scheme, to be known as Healthy Start, will also offer parents of children younger than one year of age vouchers worth £5.60 per week to buy fruit and veg or milk.


Pregnant girls under the age of 18 will also be eligible for the scheme, regardless of family income.


The government estimates around 800,000 people will benefit from the scheme, which will be phased in from the end of this year, reports BBC News Online.
