Mars is in talks with the UK’s Vegetarian Society over the possibility of gaining vegetarian certification for Mars Bars.
The news comes just two weeks after the confectionery giant performed a U-turn on a recipe change that had seen animal rennet included in the ingredients for Mars Bars. The company now hopes that the reformulated chocolate product will pass the Vegetarian Society’s scrutiny and be allowed to bear the green “V” signalling its vegetarian certification.
“We have had preliminary talks with them and we did visit their factory last week,” a spokesperson for the UK’s Vegetarian Society told just-food today (11 June).
“It’s still in its early stages and we haven’t yet made a decision on accreditation.”
