Mars Inc’s chewing gum unit Wrigley is planning a series of product launches in the UK next year.
On Friday (9 December) it released details of new products and promotions in a bid to tap into new consumer trends.
In January, Wrigley will launch a citrus pear flavour in its 5 Gum range called 5 Evolution, backed up by a “smartphone augmented reality promotion” giving consumers the chance to win prizes. Consumers scan their pack using the smartphone Blippar app to gain access to a promotional platform, where users will be given the chance to win prizes
Wrigley also plans to add a strawberry flavour to its Extra range in the UK next month.
“We’re thrilled to announce the launch of new 5 Evolution and pleased to be able to kick-start 2012 with such an exciting new promotion,” Wrigley sales director Duncan McCulloch said.
The company also plans to offer price-marked packs of Extra, Starburst and Skittles at cash-and-carry stores from April. The company says the new packs are a response to research showing that 44% of consumers are more likely to buy a product with a price clearly displayed.
