UK salmon processor The Scottish Salmon Co. has said COO Dr Stewart McLelland will become the company’s chief executive in the New Year.
McLelland, the firm’s COO, will replace Bill Hazeldean in January. Hazeldean plans to focus on Associated Seafoods, a venture set up earlier this year by The Scottish Salmon Co. and its major shareholder Northern Link to make invest in the value-added processing of salmon.
The Scottish Salmon Co. said yesterday (15 November) that Dr McLelland’s appointment as CEO would provide it “continuity” to develop plans for growth and increase its production volume to 40,000 tonnes by 2015/16.
At present, The Scottish Salmon Co. makes 24,000 tonnes of Scottish salmon a year. The company said more production would come from organic growth, new sites and “significant investment” in its supply chain.
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for The Scottish Salmon Co. said no decision had been made on the position of COO at the company when Dr McLelland moves to chief executive.
