UK-based meat packer Hilton Food Group said today (15 May) that it is “encouraged” with its current trading despite rising commodity costs.

The company, which supplies bacon and sausages to Tesco, said red meat is “relatively well-placed compared with other food products” as raw material costs bite.

Hilton said work had begun on extending a plant in Ireland to supply Tesco, while its trial to supply the UK giant’s stores in central and Eastern Europe was “progressing”.

Hilton said it would publish interim results for the 28 weeks to 13 July in September.
