Morrisons, the UK’s fourth-largest grocer, has won Red Tractor certification across its fresh meat range.
The company said today (22 February) that the agreement with the Red Tractor scheme “reaffirms its commitment to British farming”.
The Red Tractor logo sets criteria for producers and retailers to meet on food safety, environmental protection, animal welfare and British origin.
“The Red Tractor is an important quality mark for both consumers and farmers,” said David Clarke, chief executive of Assured Food Standards, the non-profit body that manages the scheme.
Morrisons group trading director Martyn Jones claimed the retailer had “always had a unique perspective on food”.
Jones said Morrisons would now change how it labels its fresh beef, lamb, pork, chicken and turkey to incorporate the Red Tractor logo.
