UK retail group William Morrison has said two key Safeway executives are not now to join Morrisons’ board when it completes its acquisition of Safeway.
Safeway operations director Lawrence Christensen and trading and marketing director Jack Sinclair had been invited to join the board of Morrisons after the merger, but the Yorkshire-based retailer has now said that will not happen, reported Dow Jones International News.
Instead, Sinclair is to leave Safeway when the merger becomes effective, while Christensen, who has worked for Safeway for more than 20 years and is approaching retirement, is to remain with the company for just three months after the merger.
Morrisons said the decision about the two Safeway directors had been made after further discussions following its revised bid for Safeway in December. The decision is believed to be aimed at avoiding duplication of roles after the merger, Dow Jones said.
