Marks and Spencer has today (23 July) announced plans to close four stores in eastern England.

The UK retailer said it had started consulting with staff at Grantham, Nuneaton, Skegness and Scunthorpe stores.

“This is not a decision we take lightly. We have individually reviewed each of these stores and believe we have explored all of the available options to keep them open,” M&S said.

“Each of these stores have seen declining sales and profitability in recent years and therefore we believe they are no longer commercially viable.”
