Marks & Spencer has confirmed that it will open its first Food on the Move store in London next month.
The UK retailer said the store in Baker Street underground station is a pilot scheme to gauge customers’ response to M&S selling takeaway hot and cold food in a standalone location.
The company added that the location is “convenient, with a heavy commuter traffic passing through the station throughout the day”.
It is expected to open next Friday (11 November) and will create 15 new part-time jobs.
The retail unit will hold 250 food lines, the majority of which will come from the existing Food on the Move offers and a selection of hot products, such as egg & bacon muffins, porridge, steak ciabattas and chicken fajita wraps. There will also be a small selection of ready meals, the company added.
M&S has 57 Food on the Move counters in stores. A spokesperson for M&S could not comment on how long the trial will last for and whether the company will look to open more once it is complete.
