Overnight tests carried out in connection with an investigation into a pig slaughtered yesterday [Thursday] at an abattoir in Leicestershire have shown initial negative results for FMD and swine vesicular disease.

Movement restrictions imposed yesterday will remain in place as further tests are done by the Institute for Animal Health in Pirbright, Surrey.

Work to trace the pig’s source premises continues. Vets have visited and cleared 12 premises and will visit a further 22 during the course of today, in North Yorkshire, Humberside, East Riding of Yorkshire and South Yorkshire.  Selby Market remains under restriction.

The definitive laboratory results should be available early next week.
