The investment will create around 35 jobs at the site, which is Nestle’s global R&D facility for its confectionery business.

“Confectionery is an exciting business which moves at a rapid pace,” Stefan Palzer, the centre’s director, said. “This expansion will allow us to accelerate and intensify confectionery product development, using sustainable and high-quality raw materials, innovative manufacturing processes and reliable and efficient equipment.”

Nestle plans to expand the “pilot plant” at the facility, which is where staff test “technologies, manufacturing processes and equipment” before they are rolled out to other sites worldwide.

A spokesperson said the York product technology centre would be used to develop confectionery products that could go on sale in markets around the world.
