The UK arm of Swiss food giant Nestle has remained silent on reports that it is in talks to obtain Fairtrade certification for its Kit Kat chocolate bars.

According to a report in the Mail on Sunday, Nestle is in talks with the Fairtrade Foundation over securing Fairtrade certification for its best-selling chocolate bar.

The move would follow Cadbury’s move to use the Fairtrade logo on the packaging of Dairy Milk chocolate earlier this year.

However, a spokesperson for Nestle told just-food that the food group was currently unable to comment on the report.

“We are of course committed to improving the sustainability of our products, but we do not have anything to announce,” the spokesperson said.
