UK toffee firm New McCowans has confirmed that it has entered into administration.

The Highland Toffee maker has appointed Trevor O’Sullivan and Rob Caven from Grant Thornton as administrators, with effect from 13 September. As a result, around 103 jobs will be at risk.

The toffee firm said that it has received interest from potential buyers.

“We can confirm that they have received some expressions of interest in acquiring the business…and that there are ongoing discussions with these parties,” a spokesperson for New McCowans told just-food.

The spokesperson added that while the factory in Stenhousemuir, near Falkirk, Scotland has closed, the company has not ceased to trade.

The company declined to comment on what factors led to the company’s fall into administration and what is going to happen to the 103 employees at the Stenhousemuir factory.
