A new marketing company is aiming to help meat producers in the north of England finally overcome the legacy of foot and mouth disease.

The Dales Quality Meat Company launches this month with the intention of establishing Dales Beef and Dales Lamb as a quality brand amongst consumers. The new company has been founded and will be supplied by Dales farmers, who have the backing of a Rural Enterprise Scheme grant from the Government.

Their intention, they say, is to create the United Kingdom’s premier regional beef and lamb brand by promoting the provenance, traceability and quality of meat produced in the Dales.

The meat will come from farms in Yorkshire, Cumbria, Lancashire and County Durham, coinciding largely with the Government’s Pennine Dales Environmentally Sensitive Area where farmers have agreed to farm in a manner that protects the Dales environment.
