Northern Foods, the UK food group, has bought a soup manufacturing plant from Baxters Food Group for an undisclosed sum.
Northern Foods said the acquisition of the Grimsby facility would give it a “bespoke production site” for its “growing soup business”.
“With both our soup and ready meal capacity increasingly constrained, buying the Baxters facility provides us with an additional high quality manufacturing facility, in a cost-efficient manner, without adding new capacity into the industry,” chief executive Stefan Barden said.
Barden said the deal also “complements” Northern Foods’ recent acquisition of UK ready meals firm Ethnic Cuisine.
