The Office of Fair Trading (OFT) will this week issue a preliminary ruling on whether a Competition Commission review of the supermarket sector is necessary.
According to a report in the Sunday Telegraph, after the OFT has announced whether it deems an anti-trust inquiry necessary, it will hold a four-week long open consultation before making a final ruling next month.
A full inquiry could take years to complete and cost the supermarkets millions of pounds.
