Hovis maker Premier Foods plc said it has received approaches for its East Anglian canning operations.

The firm said in August at the time of its interm results that it was “open minded” about disposals, provided they deliver shareholder value and accelerate the reduction of average net debt/EBITDA.

However, in a statement today (17 November), Premier said that while it had received approaches for the business, they “may or may not” lead to a sale.

“There can be no guarantee that such a transaction will take place. Further announcements will be made as and when appropriate,” the company said.

Last month, the UK food manufacturer saw its share price fall due to weaker third-quarter revenues.

Shares in the company were down 4% as the company reported that group sales had fallen 4.2% in the quarter ended 30 September.
