UK food manufacturer Premier Foods plc has taken its Sharwood’s ethnic cuisine brand into meal kits.
Citing data from IRI for the 12 months to 3 September, Premier said sales of meal kits in the UK had increased almost 9% year-on-year but the company insisted there was still “huge potential” for the products.
The UK’s largest food group is launching four Indian and two Chinese kits. Each product, which will have an RSP of GBP3.29 (US$5.23), contains a sachet of spices, a sachet of salsa or sauce and wraps or chapattis.
“For consumers who have reduced eating out of home occasions, meal kits lend themselves to in-home entertaining and give consumers the chance to be creative and turn their hand to a simple form of scratch cooking,” Sharwood’s marketing controller Kelly Davis said.
