Jobs at Rachel’s Dairy may be under threat as parent company Lactalis plans to integrate its two businesses in the UK and Ireland.

Lactalis bought Rachel’s in August 2010 but continued to run the yoghurt firm separately from its existing operations in the two countries.

The French dairy group said a full consultation will take place but it insisted it continues to be committed to the Rachel’s factory in Aberystwyth in Wales.

Lactalis said the decision would not affect any employees directly involved in manufacturing at the Aberystwyth site, which employs a total of 150 staff.

However, the company would not be drawn on the impact on jobs in other departments.

A spokesperson told just-food: “We have not made any mention of numbers as there is a consultation process to go through first.”

“Lactalis very much regrets any uncertainty this announcement may cause employees and will continue to support them throughout the consultation process.”

The company said the changes will “strengthen and help sustain Rachel’s success for the future”, and secure the long-term business relationships with local farmers and the area.
