Several restaurants in Britain have started asking patrons to promise they won’t sue before serving up rare meat.

Fears over food poisoning such as E-coli or salmonella, a greater risk in uncooked meat, now mean that restaurant goers may be asked to sign a disclaimer form before eating.

Nationwide food chains such as Planet Hollywood, All Bar One and Shoeless Joe’s now say that they are only prepared to serve rare hamburgers, sausages or minced beef if diners are happy to complete the form and waiver their right to legal action in the event of food poisoning.

According to the Sunday Times newspaper, the restaurants introduced the forms after the government’s food safety watchdog advised that minced meat should only be served well-done.
