Sainsbury’s has discarded plans to move its head office to King’s Cross after being unable to dispose of its current Holborn site.

The UK retailer has now given developers of the Kings Cross scheme permission to re-market the site where its new office was supposed to be located.

When the retailer announced the move in 2007, it said the new office would reduce rent costs as well as offer “impressive environmental credentials”.

However, a Sainsbury’s spokesperson told just-food today (9 February): “It is still our intention to move from our Holborn store support centre but this depends on finding suitable tenants for our offices. In the meantime we’ve agreed with the developers at King’s Cross that they can market the unit to other potential occupiers.”
