Sainsbury’s announces the appointment of Imelda Walsh as Human Resources Director for Sainsbury’s Supermarkets Ltd. In this new role she will have responsibility for all aspects of HR within the supermarket business reporting to John Adshead, Group Human Resources and Information Systems Director. Imelda Walsh will be supported by Jackie Watson who has been appointed Talent Director for Sainsbury’s Supermarkets Ltd. Jackie Watson will be responsible for resourcing, career planning and a development programme for senior management and colleagues.

Imelda will join Sainsbury’s in late September 2001 from Barclays Bank where she is currently HR Director for Retail Financial Services. She has extensive experience in all aspects of HR management having previously worked for Barclays Bank, Coca Cola Schweppes and Grand Metropolitan where she joined as a graduate trainee in 1986.

Jackie Watson will also join Sainsbury’s in September having previously held similar positions at Vodafone, American Express and British Airways.

Commenting on the appointments John Adshead, Group Human Resources and Information Systems Director said, “Imelda is joining to take responsibility for our Human Resources function. I am confident that with her wealth of experience, energy and drive she will bring a new focus to the task of making the contribution of our people integral to our business transformation. She will be ably supported by Jackie Watson and the rest of the existing team.”
