Sainsbury’s has launched a promotional push highlighting price cuts in an effort to woo consumers as economic conditions worsen.

The company has increased the emphasis advertising places on discounting and launched hundreds of buy-on-get-one-free offers.

While the company maintained that this is part of its aim “to give customers the best possible deal” a spokesperson for the group conceded that the retailer has shifted its emphasis to price.

“Offers have been more pushed in store and on TV,” the company told just-food today (13 May).

The UK’s largest grocers are increasingly highlighting their price credentials in the face of the credit crunch and downturn in consumer spending. Tesco renewed its price campaign this spring.
