Sainsbury’s has today (21 January) indicated that it will cut a number of head office jobs as part of a restructuring move.
The UK’s third-largest food retailer said in a statement: “Sainsbury’s has today announced plans to restructure central support teams to align them for the future growth, ensuring there is no duplication of activity and to simplify the central operation.”
A spokesperson for the supermarket operator said the restructuring was to simplify the internal structure of the company’s head office operations. Sainsbury’s will reduce the number of business units in its trading division from five to three – non-food, grocery and fresh food.
While the company declined to comment on the number of jobs on the line, reports have suggested the group will eliminate between 100 and 300 head office positions.
Earlier this month, Sainsbury’s said that it would look to create 2,000 plus jobs in the next year after revealing that third-quarter like-for-like sales were up 4.5%.
