UK retailer Sainsbury’s has announced a number of key senior management changes, to take effect from 19 March.

From the start of Sainsbury’s financial year, fresh and frozen business unit director Simon Twigger will take up the responsibility for Sainsbury’s Local as convenience business unit director, the retailer said today (27 February).

Convenience director Helen Buck will become retail director responsible for performance across Sainsbury’s supermarket estate, while retail and logistics director Roger Burnley will take up the role of managing director of general merchandise, clothing and logistics.

All will report directly to chief executive Justin King, with Burnley and Buck also continuing to serve on the operating board.

“We’ve got a great internal talent pool with the skill, dedication and drive to succeed in these roles,” King said. “We are delighted to be able to develop our people in this way, as new perspectives and fresh ideas will drive sales and deliver the very best for our customers.”

In a series of related moves, divisional directors Charlotte Rhodes and James Bailey will be appointed business unit director for fresh food and business unit director for dairy, frozen and ready meals respectively.
