The bolognese variety is made from a soffritto base with 25% mince, while the smoked bacon is made using a “traditional Italian Amatriciana recipe” blending pancetta bacon with Italian tomatoes and white wine.

Sacla said the range fills the gap in the market for consumers who have to eat alone but don’t want to resort to fast food or microwave meals.

It will be sold with an RRP of GBP1.99 (US$3.28) a jar and will be available in Asda, Tesco and The Co-operative Group outlets from July.
