A Scottish school has launched its own brand of crisps in a bid to reduce child obesity levels.
Dalziel High in Motherwell, Lanarkshire now sells its own brand of low-fat, low-salt, organic crisps, reported the Sunday Mail.
“We tried selling fruit but we had to be realistic. Pupils want crisps, so if they are as healthy as they can possibly get, it’s fantastic,” said headmaster Brian Miller.
Uttoxeter-based Better Tasting Snack Foods make the crisps, which feature a picture of the school on the front.
The bags of school crisps are sold for 30p (US$0.55) each and between them the school’s 1,000 pupils get through more than 2,000 packets a week, the newspaper said.
