London-based snacks firm Propercorn has launched a range of popcorn aimed at the children’s healthy snacks market.

The range will be available in 12g snack packs and multipack formats from September in two varieties: tomato ketchup and simply sweet. Both varieties are gluten-free and suitable for vegetarians.

Propercorn was set up by friends Cassandra Stavrou and Ryan Kohn in 2011, originally operating from her kitchen. Their products are now sold by numerous UK retailers as well as in overseas markets including Germany and Switzerland.

Propercorn claims its new product range is a ‘no junk’ snack alternative which contains ‘nothing but wholegrain corn, natural seasonings and no refined sugar’.

Stavrou said: “Since we launched nearly six years ago, we’ve watched popcorn go from mainstay of the cinema to healthy snacking staple.

“Popcorn is a totally natural, wholegrain food, with an inherent nostalgia and fun that makes it perfect for kids.”

Propercorn for Kids will be available in retailers including Tesco, Planet Organic and Amazon from mid-September with a recommended retail price of GBP1.79 (US$2.32) for the five pack and GBP0.59 for single-serve snack packs.

The launch will be accompanied by a digital campaign celebrating the ‘magical world of poptopia’.
