SOMERFIELD’s fresh new So Good range of premium quality recipe dishes and ingredients has received its first accolade within hours of being unveiled to the consumer press.
The supermarket’s bakery team were delighted to receive a top industry Q Award for their Somerfield So Good Victoria Sponge. The 2001 Quality Food and Drink Awards, which are in their 22nd year, is the premier event in the industry celebrating the very best in new quality food and drink.
The sponge sandwich took first place in the Cakes and Sweet Biscuits category and the judges remarked that the sponge “is filled with a high quality jam and a traditional butter cream, made from dairy butter and refined sugar.” They were also impressed that at just £1.59 it offers the consumer genuine value for money.
Somerfield had plenty to celebrate on the night at the award ceremony at London’s Dorchester Hotel when they scooped two other winners including the outright winner in the Organic category.
The Somerfield White Organic Bloomer beat off stiff competition from the other multiples and was described as “an outstanding winner of restaurant quality” – with “a light springy feel and a lovely flavour”.
And to top off their success Somerfield’s frozen buyer took first prize in the Junior Q category with the Somerfield Mini Chocolate Delights ice cream bars.
