The UK’s Cooperative Group, supermarket operator Somerfield and family-owned retailer Bestway are all thought to be interested in acquiring franchise grocery retailer Londis.
The UK’s Big Food Group and Ireland’s Musgrave have already expressed interest in buying Londis, with both expected to make formal bids in February.
At least one private individual, who is already connected to Londis, is rumoured to be considering a takeover bid, while Nisa Today’s, a convenience store operator and grocery supplier, is also rumoured to be interested in bidding, reported the Financial Times.
Stephen Barrett, head of corporate finance at KPMG, which has been appointed to advise Londis’ board, would not identify any potential bidders, but said he expected to have met all interested parties by the end of next week, the newspaper said.
