West-based supermarket chain Somerfield scooped four major food awards at a top ceremony in London last night.
The Quality Food and Drink Awards – the crème de la Creme of the food industry – are awarded for the very best products available on the supermarket shelves today.
All the major British retailers attended the ceremony at the Dorchester Hotel last night in the hope of walking away with a Q Award trophy.
Staff at Somerfield are rightfully basking in glory after scooping FOUR first class prizes. They are: Egg Trompetti (pasta) – Lattice Mince Pies – Plain French Truffles – and our Prince William Millennium Champagne.
With the help of the home economists from Women’s Weekly magazine, which hosted the judging, all 350-entries from various retailers were prepared and served according to on-pack instructions for a series of rigorous tasting sessions by the panel of judges.
Gillian Jenner, Editor of Supermarketing magazine, said: The key criterion for products to reach the shortlist was the highest quality in terms of taste, texture, aroma, presentation and packaging, plus value for money.
