Global symbol retailer Spar International is to expand its presence in Northern Ireland after signing a store deal with local petrol station group Maxol.

Spar said the five-year, GBP200m (US$334.1m) deal will see 29 Maxol convenience stores take on the Spar banner. The agreement follows a trial of the Spar franchise on select Maxol stores.

As part of the deal, Maxol will provide petrol to 13 service stations owned by the Henderson Group, which owns the Spar franchise in Northern Ireland.

Patrick Doody, sales and marketing director for Henderson Wholesale, said: “This deal is excellent news for our business, allowing us to expand our portfolio of Spar stores throughout the Province alongside our fuel partner Maxol.
