UK independent confectionery manufacturer Tangerine Confectionery has recalled a number of batches of its Butterkist Sweet Microwave Popcorn due to the potential presence of rice weevil.

Three multipack batches and one single pack batch have been recalled due to the possible presence of the weevil Sitophilus oryzae, the firm said on Friday (12 March).

The products have batch codes: 02/2011 B8386 – 3 x 100g multipack 03/2011 B8497 – 3 x 100g multipack 02/2011 B8496 – 3 x 100g multipack 02/2011 A8394 – 100g single pack on Clipstrip

Shops that stock the affected product have been issued with a point-of-sale notice explaining to consumers why the popcorn has been recalled.

No other Tangerine Confectionery products are known to be affected.
